VBS - Day 3

Today was another fun day with the kids. It started off great for me. I noticed Jon was eating a Slim Jim. Yummm! I love those. I was really happy when he said he had an extra one. It was delicious!

After stopping in town to get building supplies, it was time for another hike. Each day, the path seems to get steeper and steeper! Today, we had quite the escort. A bunch of kids came with us on the walk. Some had come down from the top to walk with us and others were coming from the bottom. It was really sweet.

Again we began the day with songs. Brian led us in a few English songs before the kids and Herbert took over with their awesome Swahili songs.

On the first day, the kids were a bit shy, but now they are coming out of their shells and are very lively. Today’s focus of VBS was being bold and courageous. Joyce shared the story of David and Goliath.

Jon is really tall and Joyce had him stand on a chair to show how much Goliath was. Here he is standing next to Herbert.

As we worked with the kids the guys continued with the construction projects. The office kept getting cemented and the kitchen got screens over the windows. It’s neat seeming them work with the local guys.

Next up for the kids was coloring and crafts. Today’s craft was jewelry making. They had a great time making beaded necklaces, bracelets and rings.

Then lunch! Today the kids had rice, soup and mangos.

In the morning, Anita noticed a Iddi holding a prayer journal. It was very dirty and worn. We wondered if that could have happened in a day or if it was from last year. Later she found out, it was his from last year. And it’s pages were filled. He had guarded his little treasure and actually used it. It was touching to hear that. It’s really neat to know the lessons, games and crafts have an impact.

The guys finished early because they didn’t have some materials they needed to go forward. So we packed up and headed home. On the way, we found some kids with a tiny baby goat. It was adorable.

We got back to the White Parrot around 5:00 and had a early dinner followed by devotions. Terry led it tonight and discussed Proverbs 25:25. We wonder if what we are doing is really helping. Is it enough? We could give all our resources away, but those would fade with time. However, the good news lasts forever. It was a nice time of worship, prayer and discussion.

I am loving having the team here. They are so fun and encouraging. I never want them to leave!
