After the funeral, we went back to the White Parrot for a quick break and then the team walked to my house. It’s a nice walk and only takes about 25 minutes. We thought the container would be stored at our house and the guys volunteered to prepare the yard. There was a huge rock pile that needed to be moved as well as some barbed wire. On our way, we needed to buy a shovel so we stopped by a hardware shop along the way. George usually handles stuff like this, but without George and Herbert, it was up to me to do it. I had my dictionary with me so I looked up the word for shovel and proceeded to the counter. “Ninataka koleo tafadhali.” I need a shovel please. The shop keeper happened to speak a bit of English so it turned out I didn’t have to speak Swahili, but I was so excited that I was able to do it.
Pole pole…. Slowly slowly I am learning!
