Today was even more fun than yesterday. Today's topic we were shooting was the "wiping the nose" issue. People here have developed a bad habit of blowing their nose in their hand and wiping it anywhere - trees, chairs, tables, walls, their shoes, etc. As a result, germs are being transferred to others very easily. Mabior was our main actor for the day. We filmed him wiping his nose with his hand and then smearing it on various object. Then we filmed people leaning up against it. It was SO FUNNY! We used egg whites, so it really looked like he was blowing his nose. We started with him sitting in line at the clinic, he wiped his hand on the bench and Donato got it on him. Then, Mabior got up to registration and wiped his hand on the table. Natali, our registrar yelled at him when he got it on his arm. Then we went around to the pharmacy. Peter, our pharmacist, sat on the bench next to Mabior. When Peter bent over to pick up something, Mabior blew his nose in his hand and wiped it on the wall behind Peter. When Peter sat up, he leaned against it. Next, we filmed Mabior wiping his hand on his shoe and ended with Mabior meeting with Dennis, our doctor. When Dennis turned his back, Mabior wiped his hand on Dennis back. I laughed so hard at this one because once Dennis felt Mabior's hand, he whipped around so fast and started rebuking Mabior. The one with Peter was funny too because while Peter was yelling at Mabior, he kept wiping his hand on the wall and the bench. Our last shot was with Gabriel. Gabriel saw what Mabior was doing and showed him how to use a handkerchief. The video footage came out so well. Here are some photos:

Later we did additional interviews, including one with Mary. She was the only girl to graduate high school this year in Tonj. Most girls drop out early because they get married. Mary received many marriage offers, but she declined them because she wanted to finish school. At first her dad was upset with her, but now he is supportive. She wants to become a lawyer. She is such an inspiration to the girls in Tonj.
