Amazingly Productive and Successful Day

Since we returned to Kisumu yesterday after being gone for three months, we had an important to do list to attempt today.

1. Go to immigration - get my alien card and get George's documents needed for my residency
2. Get an ultrasound (me)
3. Go to the doctor (me)
4. Check on George's driver's license
5. Go to post office to get a package that has been mixed up since December
6. Go to the bank
7. Find a place to stay
8. Buy a bed, mattress and mosquito net
9. Get Laundry Done
10. Go to Nakumatt to see if my card is ready

This was an ambitious list. We are used to things not being easy. Simple tasks can be very frustrating. Well, the Lord's hand was upon us today. The day was very productive and successful.

1. When we walked into immigration, a high school friend of George's was at the customer service desk. He was able to get the documents we needed and fax them to Nairobi. Then we quickly collected my alien card.

2. We didn't have to wait for the ultrasound and everything looks fine. The baby is growing well and isn't too big like we thought he might be. Estimated birth weight 7.5 pounds.

3. The doctor was delayed at the hospital and I had to wait a bit, but I was able to get a check up. My pregnancy is going very well. There are no complications so I don't have to go back for two weeks. Although the doctor said there are four weeks to go until baby Eli is expected, it could happen any day. That's crazy to think about. It was nice to get a check up and ultrasound since there wasn't a place to do a proper one in Korogwe.

4. This took a little work to track down at the license office and post office, but at the end of the day he got his drivers license. It only took 8 months!

5. This has been a long struggle... since December. It's way too long of a story to get into now (short version - they put the notice it arrived in the wrong PO Box and told us it didn't arrive. Then once they notified us of it, they wanted us to pay $100 for storing it!), but it got sorted out and we finally have the package without having to pay the huge fee.

6. Got the stuff done easily at the bank

7. Find a place to stay - check! We found a room to rent at a friend's house. We will stay there while in Kisumu. For the delivery, we'll go to the hospital in Kericho - about two hours from Kisumu. For a couple weeks before the delivery and after, we'll stay at a friend's house in Kericho while he stays with a neighbor.

8. Bed and net purchased for our room in Kisumu. Mattress will be purchased tomorrow.

9. Dota (a friend who helped us with laundry in Kisumu) came over while we were out doing our errands and did our laundry and cleaned the house.

10. The card didn't arrive yet (10 months since requesting it!) so they ordered it again. No big deal since I have my temporary one.

As you can see... this was a great day. We are so thankful that so much got completed. It helps to get this stuff done now so we don't stress and can rest before the baby arrives. God is so good and really blessed us today.

On Sunday we'll be traveling to Nairobi so we can go to immigration on Monday. Hopefully they will have received the fax of George's documents and will complete my residency process. If that gets done... we will have all the major things done and can focus on preparing for the baby.

  2. Wow! God continues to answer prayers - I'm so glad you had a productive day, with many thanks to the Lord. I love the photos you are sending. And YOU are looking great. It looks to me that you will have lost weight overall after Eli arrives. You face is looking thinner. Lots of love and hugs and prayers to you and George and Eli! - Cookie

    1. Thanks Cookie! I actually weigh less now than I did when I first got pregnant thanks to first trimester nausea and resulting 16 pound weight loss. I had extra to lose, so it's ok that I didn't gain weight. The baby is growing which is all that matters. It will be nice to have a head start to weight loss after the delivery!

  3. Getting eight things done on a list in Africa is like completing 20 things on a list in America! Nice job, Beaver!
