Here is another round of questions from Amy. I love these! If anyone else has a question, feel free to leave it the comments section and I will answer them in another blog.
1. What is your favorite time of day? 5-7pm - The work day is coming to a close and there is usually quiet, down time before dinner.
2. If you had to wear polyester in Sudan or a tiny weenie bikini in Nairobi...which would it be? I would rather have a suit of armor made of polyester and wear it in Sudan in February than wear a tiny weenie bikini in Nairobi... or anywhere!
3. How many times have you thought to yourself "it is hot enough to fry an egg on the floor of my room"? Too many to count, but fortunately not in a while.
4. What is the definition of the word "awed"? A free online dictionary states: A mixed emotion of reverence, respect, dread, and wonder inspired by authority, genius, great beauty, sublimity, or might.
A-wed – not found.
5. What is your favorite game to play in Sudan? Peanuts. It's a mad dash group card game. Margaret and I have paired up a few times and are a good team.
6. What is your favorite movie? It's a tie: Sound of Music and Beaches.
7. When you have your next dentist visit, will he/she say "great job flossing while you were in Tonj!"? Ummmm.... can I plead the 5th? This is actually something I am working on. After all the dental work I paid for a few years ago, I made a vow to floss daily. It's not a hard thing to do so why to I struggle to do it daily?!
8. What animal would you like Suzy to get for the "farm" in Tonj? A horse or a tamed monkey.
9. What is the latest Dinka word you learned? Pandou Kou? It means: where is your house?
10. How many patients can you triage in 3 hours? 130
11. What is your favorite job in the compound? Registration. I love interacting with the patients.
12. What is your least favorite job in the compound? Cooking (somethings never change)
13. Who is the funniest person in the compound today? Margaret. She and I laugh really hard sometimes. However, our new lab tech, George, is hilarious, too.
14. If you could fly one person from the US to visit you in Tonj, who would it be? (Richard Marx is not an option....I mean REAL person!) Excuse me... Richard Marx is alive and well... and very real. Since I can't pick him, lets see... this is a hard question since there are so many people I am longing to see. I think I would pick Katryna, my niece. I want to hug her and make sure she knows how much I love her even though I am not there.
15. How are you keeping your eyebrows so groomed? Waxing in Nairobi when I am there... plucking in between. I rarely look in a mirror here and a couple times have been shocked at the unibrow that is growing. When that happens, I quickly look for my tweezers! This just happened on Sunday.
16. What is God teaching you about yourself today? That I am a ding dong and need to stay vigilant in areas where I struggle. Sometimes I let my guard down and then fail because I have not been focused.
17. What TV show do you miss seeing? I miss watching The Office with friends.
18. Lemon Crystal Light or Fruit Punch? Crystal Light Fruit Punch is my favorite drink ever. It's like candy... or crack.
19. Would you rather take a shower with a frog or a praying mantis? Praying Mantis for sure... and I did last night!!!! Lately I have been taking my ipod speakers in the shower. I used to sing in the shower daily at home, but I don't do it here since everyone can hear me. Recently I discovered my ipod speakers are a perfect solution. They cover my voice if blasted loud enough. Yesterday my ipod and speakers were precariously wedged between a nail and the door. When i tried to adjust it, I hear a weird noise. Apparently, it was also precariously perched against a praying mantis. I decided not to adjust it again. When it came time to leave, I used a stick to knock my ipod down into my shower basket so I wouldn't have to risk touching the preying mantis.
20. Of all the teams that have come and gone from Tonj, who would you like to bring back? No offense to any other team that has been here... but my answer is RdR team #1 (Feb of 2009). Since Mark wasn't part of a team, I would pick him as my individual choice.
