Today after lunch we took a walk into town. It was me, Sabet, Eric, Chris, Stephanie and Mercy. We walked around the market where Stephanie and I bought dresses. Then we went to the jail to see if we were able to visit Peter and Rebecca. They are the ones involved in the scandal that happened about one month ago. Fortunately they let us in and we were able to see them and pray for them. I asked if I could come back to see Rebecca again and was told I could come everyday if I wanted to. So, I am planning on going back at least weekly to encourage her, pray for her and maybe do a Bible study with her and some of the ladies there. Since she is pregnant, I will bring her vitamins and arrange for Stephanie to come do a prenatal visit. Sabet said we could also arrange for her to have the baby at our clinic. I am excited about starting a ministry there. I want them to know that despite their crimes, they are not alone and there is always hope.
After we left the jail, we headed down the road to the river and the bridge. There were a bunch of naked boys playing around, having the best time. They came up to say hi and then we asked them if they jumped off the bridge into the water. They said yes and proceeded to demonstrate for us. It was so much fun.
As we walked back home, I thought about how much things have changed for me here. I used to HATE going to the market. I hated being stared at and laughed at. I felt really vulnerable and nervous. Now I have no fear and really enjoy talking with everyone. Even walking down the street feels natural. I don't look around as a tourist/visitor anymore, but see everything as normal. It's a good feeling.

Sounds like it is starting to feel like home. How awesome. :-) Nichole
ReplyDeleteSo kind of you to visit and encourage Stephanie. What a great way to show God's love to her. Stacie conducting a prison Bible study. Wow. Who'd 'ave thunk it? I am "awed" by the work you have allowed God to do in your life. You are truely his vessel. Love ya, Karen @ Aloha
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed by you. "Awed", really.
