Kenya - Part One

Our trip to Kenya was too quick and tiring, but awesome.  It was wonderful to be around our Kenya family again and have them meet our US family.  We traveled for four days to have three days in Kisumu, but it was worth it to show my Mom and Al the place we call home.  I loved being in Kisumu again.  It’s where we feel comfortable, where we know where everything is and where we are surrounded by our friends and family.

Our trip started with one of four long bus rides.  We left Moshi at 6:30am on Sunday and arrived in Nairobi at 2:00pm.  The bus ride and border process went well.

After checking into our hotel, we had lunch nearby.  What did we have?  PIZZA!!!!  It was delicious.  There is a place in Moshi that has pretty decent pizza, but this is like Papa Johns and so yummy.

On Monday, we left at 9:00am for Kisumu.  The bus ride took about eight hours.  My Mom and Al were troopers.

Those bus rides are tough, but they did great.  Eli did too.  He took long naps on the bus.  There were extra seats so we were able to spread out which helped with Eli.

The rides are long, but it was a good way for them to see the Kenyan countryside.

We arrived around 5:00pm and were so happy to get to Suzy’s house.  Suzy is George’s sister and my closest friend there.  I have missed hanging out with her.  We like to cook and laugh together.  Many members of George’s family were there to greet us.  They were shocked how big Eli has gotten.  They last saw him when he was six weeks old and scrawny.  Now he dwarfs his little cousin, Tamara, who is two weeks older than him.

It was fun to see him interact with the kids.  He loved having new people and toys to play with.  Here is Suzy’s daughter, Adi.

She is beautiful and has learned to talk since we last saw her.  Now she repeats everything and is adorable.  She was great with Eli and didn’t mind sharing her stuff with him.

After settling in, we were welcomed with a yummy meal.

 El liked it too!

Soon after, we headed to bed; tired from our journey, but happy to be in Kisumu.
