Saturday – Set Up and Rehearsal

Saturday morning started early and was non-stop the whole day. It began with a few errands followed by setting up at George's parent's house. While I did some grocery shopping, George went to Pearl Banquets to get all the supplies for the wedding set up. They provided tents, chairs, tables, chafing dishes, plates, silverwear, decorations, a white runway, arch and other items. Here is the front of George's parent's house before we started setting up.

Anyone order a wedding in a truck? I was so impressed that they fit it all into a pick up.

After a couple hours, we were almost finished.

At 4:00, we were supposed to have our rehearsal. I stayed at the house and got some marriage advice from George's mom.

Meanwhile, George ran all over town, picking up flowers and out of town guests, including some groomsmen and the pastor who was doing our ceremony. Abraham is a pastor from Uganda who worked in Sudan with George and me. In November, we went to visit him to ask him to do our ceremony and get pre-marital counseling. (I will do another post with pictures from that trip.)

By the time George and the others arrived, it was 6:30 and it was getting dark.

(Check out our cheesy shirts I had made. I left it at George's house and told him I had a shirt for him to wear that day. I wondered if he would actually wear it. I was so happy when I saw him show up wearing it.)

We did a very quick run through of the wedding and by 7:30 were off and running. I was off to Suzy's house and George was running more errands. The poor guy worked so hard that day. He still had to get last minute groceries, pick up the cars for the wedding, collect more guests and spend time with the boys.

I got back to Suzy's around 8:00 and was exhausted. All I wanted to do was wash my filthy feet (it had rained every day that week where the wedding was going to be and the ground was muddy) and go to bed early. Suzy wanted to make a nice meal so Sarah (an American exchange student staying with George's family) and I helped Suzy cook dinner. By the time we were done, it was 10:00. After that, Suzy offered to give me a pedicure. As I went to pre-wash my feet, she said “no, let me do that for you. This is your day” and proceded to wash my feet and give me a pedicure. It was so sweet, I had to hold back tears. Finally, around 11:30, I went to bed. George was up late doing last minute things and then went out for chicken with the groomsmen and a few other friends who stayed with him that night.
