Sunday - Before The Ceremony

Sunday morning, I woke up at 7:00. Our day was scheduled to start at 10:00, but I didn't have a lot to do. I just needed to take a shower, put on some make up and dress. I kept it simple and didn't get my hair, make up or nails done professionally. Even though I wasn't getting married at home, I wanted to keep some American traditions. I made sure to have something old (my sister in law's veil – not that old!), something new (my dress), something borrowed (my earrings – they are my friend Becca's who lent them to Monica for Traci's wedding. I don't know how I ended up with them, but when I saw them with my earring thought they were they perfect choice.) and something blue (a garter given to me by Danielle before I left.)

Around 9:00, I got dressed and decided to call my mom, brother and a few friends back home. George's sister's modem is faster than mine so I was able to do video skype with a few people – my brother, Derek, and his family, Sheena (who saw me pop up on Skype) and Monica and Traci.

It was so great to talk to them and see them before getting married. I hoped to call a few more people, but the connection went out. The people I talked to asked me how I was feeling, if I was nervous. The truth is, I wasn't I was just excited and ready for this.

Suzy and Sarah were really helpful that morning. When my straps kept falling, Suzy used a stapler to help keep them up. I am so thankful for her help. She and Andrew did a wedding in March similar to the one we did. We used many of the same people she used.

Around 10:00, we were told the vehicles were on their way. African tradition says that George has to pick me up. Although he wouldn't see me until the wedding started, he had to come to the house to get me. We had three cars as part of our procession. George stayed in his car as some of the family and bridal party came in the house to greet me.

By around 10:30, we were off to Kibos where the wedding was.

The cars were decorated and all drove together to Kibos. One thing they didn't warn me was the wedding procession drives really slow! It was the longest ride of my life!

(George drove one of the cars.)

Around 11:15 we arrived in Kibos, ready to start the ceremony.

  2. You are absolutely gorgeous in your dress. Just the right amount of make-up and a perfect hairdo for the veil. You look beautiful. Can't what to find out what George thought when he saw his bride in her wedding outfit for the first time. :) Karen @ aloha
