Good-Bye Mabel

Yesterday I had a big day. I sold my car, Mabel. This was an answer to prayer since I didn't know what to do with her. She has been sitting at my brothers house since before I got home. In order to get Mabel running, I would have had to get insurance, smog it, register it and put some money into it for minor service issues. Since I didn't know how long I would be home, I didn't think it was a wise investment for such a short period, especially when funds are so limited. In the meantime, I have been borrowing cars and getting rides for the past five months.

Selling Mabel was on my to-do list, but I didn't know where to start. On Tuesday Amy called and said her mechanic might want to buy it. He buys old cars cheaply and fixes them up. The timing was perfect since I just picked up the title from my mom's house that morning. I called him up, dropped of Mabel and the next day he offered to buy it. What a blessing! It was simple and quick. Plus I got a few bucks for my 16 year old car. Even though she was old, Mabel meant a lot to me. A friend's parents help me get her 13 years ago and I have loved her and taken good care of her.

It was sad to say good-bye. It also hit me that this is happening. This was a big item done for me and I am one step closer to leaving. One more piece of my life I am letting go of and saying good-bye to. If it was so hard to say good-bye to my car, I can't imagine the pain of saying good-bye (or see you later) to my friends and family. I don't let myself dwell on that at all because it is too sad. Even though I know this is what I am supposed to be doing and am excited about it, it's still difficult.

Sell car... check! Peace out Mabel!

  1. Bye, Mabel! If you don't want to keep the license plate we can put it up in my Dad's garage...
