We thought we would be based near Eldoret and planned for me
and Eli to go home from there while George went to Kisumu after the camps were
done. When we found out our hotel was in
Kakamega (2 hours from Kisumu) and the team would be traveling through Kisumu
after the camp, we happily asked them to drop us off there. I was so excited to be able to spend some unexpected
time with George’s family. I didn’t
think I would be able to see them. It
felt so good to be in Kisumu.
I really
miss being with George’s family. George’s
sister, Suzy, just came back from the US so it was fun to catch up with
her. She is my closest friend here and I
love to talk and laugh with her.
Eli was
able to play with his cousin, Adeli, and a couple other kids in the
neighborhood. All are older than him
(ranging in age from 19 months to 4 years old), but it was funny to watch him
dive in and play. He thinks he is one of
the big kids and doesn’t fear anything.
He also had fun with Grandma and Grandpa (who became his new best friend
after giving him juice.)
Our time was too short, though, as we arrived Saturday
around noon and left the next morning at 9:00.
I was sad to leave, but happy to have had the chance to see
everyone.
