This past Sunday, George taught from James chapter 2. This week’s verses focused on the power of the tongue; a small part of our body, but a powerful one. He encouraged them to stop and think before they speak. The tongue can do a lot of damage. Before you say something ask yourself… is it worth it? Will this tear someone down or build someone up. It was a good sermon. George is such a good speaker. He has a good balance between humor and truth. He keeps them engaged while staying true to the word.
After the service, we hung out with the pastor and his family. We continued planning the youth camp with Pastor Zac before he had to head out to meet with other pastors from local churches. They were going to discuss the camp and when to schedule it. We are all very excited to put it on.
At 4:00, George led his class in a more in depth look at the verses in James we discussed in the morning. Eli was napping in the house, so I missed most of the class. Later, my women’s group talked about pride. Pride can be so destructive. We don’t want to look stupid and fear people won’t respect us so we hold tight to our pride, even when we are wrong. We talked about the importance of saying sorry. Even when we are right, saying sorry can end a standoff. It’s more worth it to keep the relationship, then being determined to be right. After all, God knows the truth. We discussed ways to deal with a prideful person (love, love, love) and what to do if we struggle with pride. It was a good topic, but the ladies were a bit quiet. I’m not sure why. There was a new lady, though, who spoke a lot which I love!
